MIT Game Lab (originally known as GAMBIT) is a research lab project founded in 2006 as a collaboration between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the government of Singapore. It was originally a five year project, expanded to six, to bring together scholars, creators, and technologists to teach, conduct research, and develop new approaches for applied game design and construction. The name GAMBIT was meant to imply the fact that the project was an opening gambit (both for a new form of game development, and for Singapore's role in game development). It was also an acronym standing for Gamers Aesthetics Mechanics Business Innovation Technology. In 2013, GAMBIT became the MIT Game Lab, as the government of Singapore was no longer involved in the project.

In 2009, students at GAMBIT created the adventure game Rosemary, using the Wintermute engine.
