Uninvited is a point and click adventure game where a driver sees a mysterious figure and swerves to avoid it, crashing the car and being knocked unconscious. The driver discovers that their sibling is missing. With a creepy old mansion being the only place that the sibling could be, the driver heads into it, and soon discovers that it was once owned by a wizard and has become infested with the undead.
It was originally created with the MacVenture engine. An unofficial text adventure version was created by Dave Griffith in Inform in 2019.
Required Data Files
The following applies to the Macintosh (MacVenture) version. Copy the following from the extracted disk image, keeping the filenames intact:
- All files from the image
- Including the
Uninvited 1992subdirectory
The Zojoi re-release (sold on Steam) contains the same data as the 1993 Macintosh rerelease and is auto-detected as such; you only need to extract it from the download (see below).
Extracting from the Steam release
The Steam download is only a CEF web-wrapper (libcef.dll, ffmpegsumo.dll, icudt.dll, <game>.exe); the Macintosh disk image is embedded as PE resource 256/1012 inside the .exe (resource 256/1011 is the Apple IIGS .2mg, which ScummVM does not use). Extract it using either method:
- Using dumper-companion directly on the executable — it recognises the known games and extracts the image itself:
devtools/dumper-companion.py iso <game>.exe <outdir>
- Using wrestool (from icoutils) to pull the image into a
.dskfirst, then converting it:wrestool -x --raw --type=256 --name=1012 <game>.exe -o <game>.dskdevtools/dumper-companion.py iso <game>.dsk <outdir>
Both write MacBinary files (resource forks preserved) with the filenames ScummVM expects. Then add <outdir> as the game path in ScummVM.
