Amerzone is a graphic adventure game developed by Belgian artist Benoît Sokal, who later rose to fame for the Syberia series.

The player is a young reporter set to explore the fabled land of Amerzone following the footsteps of Alexandre Valembois, an explorer who visited the area decades before.

Unlike Syberia, the game uses a Myst-like first person perspective.

Engine

The original version for Windows and classic Mac OS uses the PhoenixVR engine, which is currently work in progress.

The more recent iOS, macOS, and Android releases use the Tetraedge engine which was also used for Syberia and is already part of ScummVM.
However, it uses a version of the engine which is significantly different and will require a lot of work to support.

Installation

For GOG releases, you can just press "Add Game..." and point directory dialog to the installation folder.

For CD releases you need to prepare game files.

  1. Create a directory, e.g. "amerzone"
  2. Copy all files from CD1 "disk1/" directory to "amerzone". "disk1" must not present in "amerzone", you need to copy only files. (you can ignore DirectX directory).
  3. Copy folders called 01VR_PHARE, 02VR_ILE, 03VR_PUEBLO, 04VR_FLEUVE, 05VR_VILLAGEMARAIS and 07VRTEMPLE_VOLCAN to "amerzone" directory. (Yes, there's no Chapter 6 and no directory called 06VR_...)
