Harvester is a horror point-and-click adventure game.

Set in 1953, you play the role of Steve, a young man who finds himself in the seemingly quiet town of Harvest.
Unable to remember anything, you must explore the surroundings, interact with peculiar characters, and investigate the mysterious "Order of the Harvest Moon" which seems to rule the town from the intimidating "Lodge" headquarters.

NOTE: The game contains gratuitous blood and gore and controversial themes and should not be played by minors (or the easily offended).

Installation

Required data files

For more information on how ScummVM uses game data files, see the user documentation.

ScummVM needs the game data from all three Harvester CDs available in one game directory. Do not merge the CD contents into a single flat directory, because some files have the same names but differ between discs.

You'll want to create a CD1, CD2, and CD3 directory, then copy the following from each CD into the associated directory:

HARVEST.DAT
HARVEST.SCR
HARVEST2.DAT
INDEX.001
INDEX.002
INDEX.003
SOUND.DAT

Note that the contents of CD1 and CD2 are identical, but were retained in the event an unknown game variant or fan translation contains differing content. The remaining files on each CD under GRAPHIC/ and SOUND/ should be merged into the associated directories. The end result should look like:

ADJHEAD.RCS
BLOOD.ABM
CD1/
CD2/
CD3/
CHESS.ABM
CONFIG.INI
DIALOG.RSP
DIALOGUE.IDX
GRAPHIC/
HARVEST.BMP
HARVEST.EXE
HARVEST.INI
MENU.INI
SOUND/
SPIDER.ABM

GOG, ZOOM Platform and Steam Support

Harvester is available for purchase and download from both GOG and ZOOM. When you purchase, download and install these games they're distributed with ISO images of the CDs that have been renamed as:

  • HARVEST.DAT
  • HARVEST3.DAT
  • HARVEST4.DAT

These ISO images will need to first be mounted so that you can access their contents, then copy the necessary data files as per the above instructions.

To verify your files are ISO files, you can use the file tool (on macOS or Linux):

# list the DAT files

$ ls -lh HARVEST*.DAT
-rwxr-xr-x 1 alex staff 574M Dec 9 2019 HARVEST.DAT
-rwxr-xr-x 1 alex staff 19M Dec 9 2019 HARVEST2.DAT
-rwxr-xr-x 1 alex staff 520M Dec 9 2019 HARVEST3.DAT
-rwxr-xr-x 1 alex staff 456M Dec 9 2019 HARVEST4.DAT

# determine the file type of a selected DAT file

$ file HARVEST.DAT
HARVEST.DAT: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'DISK1'

The Steam version has these ISO images located in a HARVEST_CD directory:

  • HARVESTER_DISC1.ISO
  • HARVESTER_DISC2.ISO
  • HARVESTER_DISC3.ISO

As with the GOG and ZOOM releases, these ISO images would need to be mounted and the relevant data files extracted.
