Zork: Grand Inquisitor is the third point-and-click graphic adventure game in the Zork series. The player character, AFGNCAAP (Ageless, Faceless, Gender-Neutral, Culturally Ambiguous Adventure Person), joins forces with a dungeon master named Dalboz who has been trapped in a lantern by the Grand Inquisitor, Yannick. They attempt to find three legendary objects that will restore all magic to the realm and bring about the fall of the Inquisitor.

Installation

Required data files

For more information on how ScummVM uses game data files, see the user documentation.

GoG version

  • Use the GoG installer, no further file copying is needed

CD version

  • Copy the following from the zgi directory of CD1 into the game root directory:
    • The zgi_mx directory
    • cursor.zfs
    • death.zfs
    • inquis.str
    • inquis.zix
    • r.svr
    • scripts.zfs
    • subtitle.zfs
  • From CD1, copy the zassets1 directory into the game root directory
  • From CD2, copy the zassets2 directory into the game root directory
  • It's recommended to apply patch 1.2, but you may have to install the game normally for that, as the patch has its own installer

Mac CD version

  • Copy the same files as for Windows CD version
  • Additionally copy from the zgi directory of CD1 into the game root directory:
    • The ADDONS directory
    • The TAUNTS directory
  • The patch has already been applied to this version

DVD version

  • Copy the following from the zgi_e directory into the game root directory:
    • The addon directory (game patch 1.2)
    • The zgi_mx directory
    • cursor.zfs
    • death.zfs
    • inquis.str
    • inquis.zix
    • r.svr
    • scripts.zfs
    • subtitle.zfs
  • Copy the eng_mpeg directory (hires MPEG2 video files) into the game root directory
  • Copy the zassetsc directory into the game root directory
  • Copy the zassetse directory into the game root directory

Non-bugs

In the English version, the video where you first get the lantern has a different audio track in the DVD version than in the CD version. The subtitles are the same in both versions however, causing a slight discrepancy.

If you have both versions, you can safely substitute the DVD version's pe2em061.avi with the one from the CD version. Note that the CD version's video uses lower resolution, 320x172 pixels instead of 640x344.
