Disney is a company that was founded by Walt and Roy Disney on October 16, 1923 as The Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The name was changed to the Walt Disney Studio in January 1926. It became incorporated in December 16, 1929, and was renamed Walt Disney Productions. The company was again renamed to The Walt Disney Company in February 6, 1986, and is now commonly known as Disney.
While Disney had been licensing their products to developers for several years prior, they formed their own in-house gaming division in 1988, Disney Computer Software. Disney Computer Software was reorganized into Disney Interactive on December 5, 1994. Buena Vista Games was spun out of Disney Interactive in 2003, to act as a game publisher. Buena Vista Games was renamed Disney Interactive Studios in 2007. Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, and shut down internal game production at LucasArts on April 3, 2013. Disney shut down its other game development studios in May 2016. It now serves as a licensor and digital publisher for the properties that it owns, including the LucasArts adventure games.
