Infocom was a software company that was founded in 1979 by Massachusetts Institute of Technology staff and students led by Dave Lebling, Marc Blank, Albert Vezza, and Joel Berez. They became famous for their text adventures using the Z-machine such as the Zork series.

In 1986, Activision purchased Infocom. They closed the Infocom division in 1989, however, they released the MADE engine graphic adventure games Leather Goddesses of Phobos 2 and Return to Zork under the Infocom label.
