Status of the Kyra engine
The current Kyrandia engine in the ScummVM CVS can play the intro sequences and the scripted intro part runs fine with a minor graphics glitch, also basic play support is implemented (i.e. moving around a bit), most of it was REd and some old things from the first import of FreeKyra are still there. (thanks for the sprite/room code to vinterstum). CD version is working. The data file needed can be found in the cvs module "engine-data".
Currently LordHoto works on some functions needed to get the scripts running, so that there will be very basic playing support in the (maybe near) future.
If you have any questions about the engine or its status ask cyx or LordHoto.
Help is welcome. If you want to help look at our IRC channel for cyx or LordHoto and ask them that could be done.
Status of the Source Release
Negotiations for the release of the source to Kyrandia (and possible freeware release) have been conducted with Electronic Arts LA. The original code and assets from the Westwood-era have been confirmed to still exist on backups, however due to the current rights situation, it is impossible to progress further on a release of these assets.
Basically, the Kyrandia rights appear to have been retained by Viacom (as Spelling Entertainment). Despite investigation by several people (Thanks Mike, Louis), there has been no further progress. If anybody happens to know a higher-up at Viacom, please contact Ender (at scummvm.org) :)
