The first installment in the Broken Sword series,  Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars, also known as Circle of Blood in the United States, used a variant of Revolution's Virtual Theatre engine. The game follows an American tourist named George Stobbard and a French photographer named Nicole Collard, as they investigate a murder in which George is a suspect, and discover a conspiracy involving the ancient order of the Knights Templar, the group of men selected by the Papacy to fight in the Crusades.

Versions
Broken Sword was released in several different versions.
* Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars aka Circle of Blood (original version). This version is supported by ScummVM.
* Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Director's Cut.
The Director's Cut version is not supported by ScummVM. However, most digital stores bundle it together with the original classic version, which runs via ScummVM. On Steam the original version is currently a free DLC, and on GOG it is included as a separate download under the "Extras" section for the Downloads available for this game.
Required data files
For more information on how ScummVM uses game data files, see the user documentation.
Other than the speech.clu files that need to be renamed, the files that appear with the same name on both CDs should be identical and you can use one from either CD. The 2M29.WAV file from the Windows release is an exception as the file from the first CD uses a higher sample rate and should thus be higher quality, which is why we recommend using the one from the first CD.
Note: Since ScummVM 2.7.0 the folder structure from the original media needs to be preserved. Older versions of ScummVM allowed to move files to the top level folder, while they now need to remain in their respective subdirectories. If your game is no longer detected by ScummVM, you may need to move back the files to their original subdirectories.

Cutscenes
Copy the the "SMACKS" or "SMACKSHI" directories on the CDs to the same directory as the other game data files. Broken Sword also has a "SMACKSLO" directory with the same cutscenes, but these are of lower quality.
For the PlayStation versions, you can use the original videos off the disc. For each of the files ending in an "STR" extension, you should dump them as raw sectors off the disc (all 2352 bytes per sector).  For more information, see the wiki HOWTO-PlayStation Videos page.
Some re-releases of the games, as well as the PlayStation version, do not have Smacker videos. Revolution Software has kindly allowed us to provide re-encoded cutscenes, available on our Games download page. For subtitle support, choose the cutscene pack with the appropriate subtitle add-on.
These cutscenes are provided in DXA format with FLAC audio. The quality is equal to the original games due to the use of lossless compression. Viewing these cutscenes requires a version of ScummVM compiled with both FLAC and zlib support.
For systems that are too slow to handle the decoding of FLAC audio, the audio for these cutscenes is also provided separately as OGG Vorbis audio. Viewing these cutscenes with OGG Vorbis audio requires a version of ScummVM compiled with both libVorbis and zlib support.
Game languages
The following language choices are available when using command-line arguments or the "Language" option in the game-specific settings. For more information, see the user documentation

 • Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars aka Circle of Blood (original version). This version is supported by ScummVM.
 • Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars - The Director's Cut.

The following language choices are available when using command-line arguments or the "Language" option in the game-specific settings. For more information, see the user documentation
