An interpreter is a game engine recreation that replaces an original engine binary that came with a particular original game. Interpreters are primarily made to allow support for games on other operating systems. In many cases, these are made by reverse engineering the original executable, but occasionally, as was the case with Adventure Soft, Revolution, Wyrmkeep Entertainment and others, the original developers have helped the project by supplying the original source code.
